Former Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle, is the latest appointee by the Obama Administration to come under fire for a failure to pay taxes on a timely basis. Daschle , recently paid $140,000. in back taxes including penalties. Daschle, President Obama’s nominee for Secretary of Health and Human Services,  joins Secretary of the Treasury, Timothy Geithner as a senior level Obama appointee with tax issues.

Another Obama nominee, Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico had to withdraw his name for consideration as Secretary of Commerce. Just two weeks into his Presidency, in which he promised to rid Washington of the politics of the past the Obama administration seems to be entrenched in the politics of the old where relationships inside the beltway are the order of the day.

Just as in business, relationships are integral in governing. Politicians thrive on compromise and deal making. Those with the greatest knowledge of how things work in Washington are indeed those career politicians who have weathered the storms of past administrations. Barack Obama won the White House on a platform that belittled the era of partisan politics and appealed to the electorate with a litany of change and yes we can.

Change, has indeed come to Washington. Instead of having some measure of balance among a Democrat controlled Congress and a Republican controlled White House, the electorate has place their hopes for change in a Democrat administration content to practice the politics of the past. Yes we can.
